Training times and expectations

5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Lockleys FC

Variations in training time/location
During the season training will normally be at the Lockleys FC.  Occasionally a special alteration in training time/location may be planned, this would be announced at the end of the previous training session.  Please try to be nearby at the end of training, a time when any messages are given out to families.
Expectations
Players are expected to be on time and attend all training sessions, unless arranged otherwise with the coach.  If unable to attend it is expected that the coach is notified beforehand.
Infrequent or tardy attendance, or unexplained absence, will all impact on a player's selection in the team.
This is a basic approach with all Lockleys FC Juniors teams.

R14 Match Report, Lockleys v Port District 18/7

It was our first taste of wet footy for the year, and our under 11’s got down and dirty and enjoyed the experience. We played against Port Districts on our home deck, and the last time that we met them here we beat them in a close one. The pre game message was about adjusting our game to suit the conditions, and our players quickly realised that wet footy is a different ball game. With only one on the bench, it was going to be a hard slog with little time to rest tired players, but we stood tall for most of the game on a day where an extra effort was required by all.
Kyle “Muddy” Brits lived up to his name with a best on ground performance on the wing, while Lachlan “Tiny” Matthias rucked all day and did the kick-ins for us from full back for most of the game. Jamie Smith played his usual fearless game on the ball, reading the play and continually winning the hard contested ball. Ben D’antonio led his side by example with his usual high possession game, encouraging his team mates to play the hard working, high intensity game, in front that he continues to show us each and every week. Sebastian Cardone was asked to perform many tasks and played several positions throughout the game, and played one of his best games for the year so far. Our forward line performed reasonably well under the conditions, but with our opponent’s superior defensive structure and hardness at the ball, inside our forward fifty, they limited our scoring opportunities and rebounded the ball out too often with relative ease.
We’re still having some trouble stringing four quarters of hard, intense footy together, and if we’re going to take the next step this season, we need to start playing with more determination and desire for the uncontested ball. Our skills and teamwork are beginning to bear the fruits of our efforts at training with our sharing and passing of the ball hitting targets. We need to start thinking about zones and locking the ball inside our forward fifty more than we do and working harder and making the most of our opportunities when it’s there. We have a short week this week, with our game at Finders Park this Friday night. Let’s see a more determined effort, with some hardness, intensity and desire to win the ball more than our opponents. If we take these traits into this week’s game, we will win and win well.
Andrew Matthias, Coach
